Charlotte Farrell

Charlotte Joyce Farrell, 92, of Henrietta Boulevard, Amsterdam, passed away Sunday morning, August 31st (on her birthday) at Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility in Amsterdam, where she was a patient since April of this year.

Born in Amsterdam on August 31, 1922, and a lifetime resident of the city, she was the daughter of Harlow William and Viola Dressler Smith.

Charlotte was a 1940 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She worked as an operator for the phone company for a number of years. She was a cat and dog lover who greatly enjoyed the use of the Sassafras - special mention to pets Buffy, Cassie, Katie (1 & 2),Chloe, and Puff. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle aficionado. As an accomplished cook and baker, she always kept her family and friends supplied with delicious dinners and delectable treats. On a sunny summer afternoon, Charlotte could often be found either enjoying a swim or gardening. Over the course of her lifetime, Charlotte was a treasured friend to countless people – always available to listen and chat.

Her husband, Robert J. Farrell to whom she married on January 27, 1951, passed away November 9, 1988.
Charlotte is survived by one son, Brian H. Farrell (Carla) and two daughters, Robin J. Fitzgerald and Sharon M. Dumblewski (Tim), all of Amsterdam: three grandchildren, Brandon Dumblewski, Sean and Dylan Farrell: nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Dr. Kelly Phelps and family.

A prayer service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary Inc. 110 Division St. Amsterdam.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
