Catherine A. Swierzowski, 84, of Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY; passed away peacefully Sunday morning July 5, 2015 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY. Her loving family was at her side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Maria Vertucci Carbone.
Cathy received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a 1948 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Cathy was employed by the New YorkTelephone Company in Amsterdam for over 22 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1992.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
A devout Catholic, Cathy was a former parishioner and communicant of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Amsterdam. She was also a CCD teacher, member the Rosary Sodality Society, Eucharistic Minister and lector at the church.
Over the years, she enjoyed cooking and gardening and was especially known for her beautiful flower garden.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edmond “Rocky” Swierzowski to whom she married June 20, 1953; one son, Louis Swierzowski of Albany, NY; two daughters, Ann (Alex) Barr of Medway, MA, and Carol (Raymond) Victor of Windermere, FL; one brother, John (Stella) Carbone of Scotia, NY; one sister, Florence Warren of Amsterdam, NY; six grandchildren, Joseph, Julia and Peter Swierzowski, Patricia, Jeffrey and Elizabeth Victor; sister-in-laws Theresa Krong and Alice (Edward) Janusz; and brother-in-law, Rev. Stanislaus Swierzowski. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Cathy was also predeceased by three sisters, Rose Guynup, Louise Petrosino and Maria Howey; and her daughter-in-law, Dian (Hart) Swierzowski.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8 at 10:15 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY. Services will be followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam. Cathy’s brother-in-law, Rev. Stanislaus Swierzowski will be officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Robert Goslin and the staff at New York Oncology and Hematology, and to the nurses and staff of the 4th floor at St. Mary’s Healthcare.
