Bernard Richard Stellato, 91, of Amsterdam, NY and formerly of Perth, NY; passed away Tuesday morning, December 15, 2020 at his residence.
Born in Amsterdam on September 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Anthony and Filomena Fiato Stellato.
Rich received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
He served as president for the Local Protection and Security Union and as a security officer at General Electric Company for many years until retiring in 1993.
Rich was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran with the rank of Corporal and served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953.
Bernie was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
He was a former member and chairman of Perth Youth Commission, former member of the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Perth Board of Assessment, former member of Sons of Italy and was a current member of the Southside Veterans Association.
On April 8, 1956, he was united in marriage to Norma M. Petruccione Stellato who survives at home, one son, Louis B. “Louie” Stellato (Lisa) of Ballston Spa, NY; one grandson, Michael P. Stellato (Hayley) of Amsterdam, nieces, nephews, Anthony (Lorraine) Stellato, Ann Marie Gotzen-berg, Filomena LaBate, Deborah Kiskis, John (Jessica) Stellato, David (Sandy) Petruccione, Norma L. Brent) Bozell, Mary (George) Vancore, Anne (Benjamin) Wojciechowsky and Peter (Dawn) Petruccione and sister-in-law, Margaret “Peg” Petruccione.
Rich was also predeceased by two sons, Michael A. and Richard A. Stellato, one sister, Mary DiCaprio, and three brothers, John, Louis and Francis Stellato.
A private Mass of Christian Burial for family will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with Rev. O. Robert De Martinis officiating and will be live streamed on face book by going to OLMC Amsterdam at 12 noon Friday December 18, 2020.
Full military honors will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Interment will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.
