Ben J. Anadio, 97, of Northern Terrace, Gloversville, NY, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Gateway House of Peace in Ballston Spa, NY.
Born in Sharon Springs, NY, on February 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Teresa Affabli Anadio Sr, both originally of Naples, Italy.
Ben was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in 4 campaigns with the 386th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion from 1943 to 1945, defending London and participating in the Army’s drive east through France into Germany up until the German surrender.
He was co-owner, with his brother, of P&B Anadio Mason Contractors of Gloversville, NY, and a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers.
Ben was a warm, kind and gentle man, and a lifelong golfer. He was predeceased by his wife, Syann Gutman Anadio (April 17, 2007), and two sons, Martin A. Hennelly (2004) and Thomas J. Hennelly (2020). He was also predeceased by four brothers (Anthony, Joseph Jr, Dominic, Peter) and five sisters (Olympia [Belle], Filomena [Fannie], Carmella, Lucy, Sharon [Teresa]).
Surviving Ben are two daughters-in-law, Mary Ellen Hennelly and Shirley Hennelly, and five grandchildren, Ben J. Hennelly, Mark T. Hennelly, Lori M. Hennelly (Robert), Coleen M. Anders (David) and Martin J. Hennelly. Several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Ben was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
There are no calling hours.
Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.
