Ann Sherman

Longtime Amsterdam resident Ann Sherman passed away on December 10, 2024 in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Ann was born on February 10, 1929 in Amsterdam - the daughter of Anthony and Constance Nardick.

The family ran a grocery store in Fonda, where Ann attended the public schools and graduated from the old Fonda High School. She then received her certificate from the Amsterdam School of Commerce, and began work in the advertising department at Mohawk Carpet Mills.

Ann married George Sherman in 1952, and together they raised three sons - Paul, Alan and George. She also worked as a legal secretary in the firm of Taylor, Wilkinson and Hardies, and was very active in school, civic and charitable organizations including the PTA, Cub Scouts, Amsterdam Public Library volunteer, Home Bureau and St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary – including terms as Auxiliary President.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, her three sisters, Fannie, Liz and Millie, and her husband George. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses (Judi, Joy and Laura), six grandchildren (Elizabeth, Alison, Christine, Rebecca, Ashley and Evan), and four great-grandchildren (Lucy, Cole, Henry and Nina).

Ann was a devout parishioner at St. Mary’s Church and a dedicated volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital. Friends wishing to make a donation in Ann’s name are encouraged to support these organizations. 

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, followed by burial at St. Cecilia Cemetery in Fonda.
