Alan D. Cornelius, 82, of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Schenectady on May 31, 1942, the son of the late Minard O. and Jean Ranalli Conelius. Alan graduated from Linton High School, Schenectady and attended Modern Welding School.

Alan belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and worked as a welder and a businessman and also at Mohawk Lifts. He retired from the City of Amsterdam where he worked in the water and public works departments.

He belonged to Mohawk Anglers Fish Club, The Great Sacandaga Fisheries Federation and coached and mentored with the Amsterdam Wee Men Baseball League. He also served as president of the Fairview Cemetery Board of Directors.

Alan is survived by his wife, Regina Reed Cornelius whom he married on June 19, 1965, his children; Scott A. Cornelius, Allyson M. Ferri (Peter J. McNamara) and Jennifer A. Lauria (Dr. Salvatore A. Lauria) and grandchildren; Tyler Reed Makarowsky (Kasey Makarowsky), Cameron Alan Ferri, Sydney Regina Lauria, Roman Bradley Ferri and Preston Salvatore Lauria.

Alan was predeceased by his son, Christopher A. Cornelius on July 2, 2010.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Alan’s family at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam on Saturday March 22, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00. The funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Steadwell Road, Amsterdam, NY
