William Sievert

William “Billy” T. Sievert, 76, of Log City Road, Amsterdam, NY and a lifelong resident, passed away Thursday morning February 2, 2012 at Albany Medical Center.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Richard and Viva Kenyon Sievert.

Billy was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam.

He was employed as a photographer for New York State Department of Commerce, Albany, NY. He worked for five Governors’ and the “I LOVE NY“ Tourism Campaign. Bill also covered the Lake Placid World Olympics
.
Billy was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1955 to 1959.

He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He loved to fish with his friends at Black Lake, drive his “Big” John Deere Tractor and ply cards with his good friends, Bob Daly, Linda and Walt Bargstedt. He was also a successful musician in the Capital Region.

Billy is survived by his wife, Janet M. Tallmadge Sievert at home, two daughters, Yvonne Lenz and Wendy Sievert, a son William R. Sievert (Jennifer), two stepchildren, Patty Bedell (David) and Paul Slansky (Laura), seven grandchildren, Kayla Lenz, Gary Lenz, Tara Farley, Stephanie Etherton, Brittany Etherton, William R. Sievert Jr, and Matthew Sievert, one great granddaughter, Julianna Simpson, five step grandchildren, Dan Bedell, Derek Bedell, Kattlyn Slansky, Brian Carpenter, Brandon Stark and Brendan Ringer. several nieces and nephews and his loving cousin, Tom (Pam) Alvarez, his loving sisters in laws, Margaret Newkirk, Evelyn Grandy, (Charles) and Sharon Tallmadge, Jimmy and (Harriet) Tallmadge.

Billy was also predeceased by three brothers in laws, Harry Newkirk, Charlie and his wife, Thelma Lampkin and Virgil Tallmadge. A step grandson, Richard A. Carpenter also predeceased Billy.

Cremation was held at Park View Crematory in Schenectady, NY.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning February 11, 2012 at 12:00 o’clock at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Friends are invited to call from 11:00 to 12:00 prior to the service.
