Pasquale “Pat” Auricchio, 87, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away Tuesday afternoon April 12, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving family by his side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 26, 1928, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Luisa Adamo Auricchio.
Pat was a graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Fulton Montgomery Community College. He proudly served our country during the Korean War, stationed with Company “A” 24th Signal Battalion, Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was most recently employed by NYS Office of General Services, specializing in telecommunications, until his retirement in 1992.
A gentle, quiet, private, and thoughtful man with great intelligence and a sharp dry wit, Pat spoke only when he had something to say and it was always on point and with substance and humor. He treasured every moment of his retirement with his four grandchildren and his wife, Theresa. Pat most enjoyed summers in his pool with his grandchildren, teaching them to swim, to splash each other and to learn water exercises. A man fond of long daily walks, Pat was known to adjust his walk as his grandchildren grew to ensure they were delivered safely to school when he could no longer be the taxi service.
Pat’s pride in the accomplishments of his sons and their families was deep, quiet, and sustaining; he was a champion who encouraged, supported, and drew great pleasure from all aspects of our lives. Pat’s deep devotion and love to his wife Theresa was never in doubt. They were rarely separated and one was not whole without the other; they were real models for a life-long marriage. Over the last decade, as Pat’s hospital visits increased, his focus and worry was always for his wife Theresa whom he married in November, 1951. After 64 years of marriage, he was predeceased by Theresa who passed away a short two weeks and one day ago; a lifetime to two souls who lived as one and who are together again.
Pat was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
Pat is survived by his son, Michael (Michele Conway) Auricchio of Amsterdam, one brother-in-law, Peter Mirabito (Irene) of Scottsdale, AZ, one sister-in law, Sr. Anne Michael Mary Mirabito, Sisters of St. Joseph Provincial House, Latham, NY, four grandchildren, Daniel (Krystle), Amanda, Maureen and Kelly Auricchio, two great grandchildren, Kennedy and Avery Auricchio and daughter-in-law, Karen J. Kowalski Auricchio. He is survived also by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was predeceased by his wife Theresa on March 28, 2016 and by his son, Richard L. Auricchio on June 22, 2008. He was also predeceased by his sister Rosa Auricchio DiPalma, his brother Gennaro Auricchio, and his sister Anna Auricchio Meschino.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.
