Betty J Maines

Betty J. Maines, 80, of Northville, NY; passed away Thursday April 12, 2018 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Gloversville, NY on September 6, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Emma Meher Graff.

Betty received her education and graduated from Broadalbin Central School.

Betty was the Postmaster in Wells, NY for over 30 years.

She was a member of the North Country Cloggers, the Red Hat Society and also volunteered for the Board of Elections in Northville, NY. Betty enjoyed spending her time on the lake in Wells and Northville as well as traveling and playing cards with all of her friends.

Betty’s family would like to especially thank the staff at both the Sanford Home and Wilkinson for all of the care and compassion they gave her.

Betty’s husband, William E. Maines Sr., who she married September, 10, 1955, predeceased her on June 24, 2009. She is survived by two sons, William E. Maines Jr. (Mary) of Fort Johnson, NY and Wayne Maines (Kelly) of Austin, TX; one daughter, Melody Maines of Kissimmee, FL; five grandchildren, Evan, Jessica, Nicole, and Jonas Maines and Cinnamon Hawkins; three sisters, Clara Louise Thatcher, Mary Lou Sweet and Sharon Hassfurter. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Betty was also predeceased by one brother and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with pastor Judy Humphrey-fox officiating.

Calling hours are from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
