Anne E. (Demars) Chambers

10/27/1935-06/20/2020, passed away in Overland Park, Kansas where she had resided for the past several years.

Born to Edmund and Loretta (Scott) Demars in 1935, she resided most of her life in Amsterdam, New York.

She worked at St. Mary’s Institute and then Bishop Scully High School aligning her work schedule to accommodate caring for the family she so loved. Later she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and retired from there.

Upon retirement, she moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania to be near her daughter, son-in-law and beloved grandchildren. She continued working, first in a leasing apartment office, and then at a stylish boutique.

In 2006, she moved to Shawnee, Kansas when her family made a job transfer to that location. She worked at Good Shepherd Catholic School, and volunteered for many years with the food kitchen ministry. She loved all the places she lived, and her lifelong love of people brought her the gift of many friendships.

Her greatest joy was being able to spend time with her grandchildren, Ryan and Erin. They had overnights, food feasts, pool parties, played basketball, ate ice cream and shopped the dollar stores. She will be dearly missed.

Anne was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Joseph and William Demars, her husband, William H. Chambers and her son, Scott W. Chambers.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra C. Smith and husband, Bruce of Shawnee, Kansas, grandson, Ryan S. Smith and his wife, Kily of Independence, Missouri, and granddaughter, Erin E. Smith of Overland Park, Kansas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Monday June 29, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating. (Masks and social distancing required)

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Memorial gifts in Anne’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, Kansas 66216 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

I was a student helper in the Bishop Scully cafeteria in the early 1970s and worked with Mrs Chambers for several years. She was always pleasant, fun and energetic, a delight to know and work with, always patient with us teenage kids. My condolences to her family.

I am so thankful that I stayed with you and know what a wonderful person your mom was. I learned so much from her in such a short time. God bless.MJF

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Debbie, Bruce, Ryan and Erin. We have fond memories of getting everyone together for the reunions. That is the way that every family should get along - it was beautiful! Aunt Anne was close to her Mom and she passed that down to create a strong relationship with Debbie and her family. Be fortunate for the great times and special bond that you had. Though it is hard, she now has to join Uncle Will! Love Laurie and Aunt Lillian
